The College has an open-door admissions policy that encourages everyone to pursue high-quality, affordable education. We offer traditional classes – in everything from arts and sciences for transfer to welding, business and nursing – at our campuses in Chester and Midlothian, as well as online classes and special programs for high school students.

New Student Not Seeking a Degree or Certificate
You have never attended college and never enrolled in courses at John Tyler, and you are interested in taking courses but not earning a degree or certificate.

Returning Student
You have attended John Tyler in the past and would like to re-apply for admission.

Transfer Student
You have attended other colleges or universities but have never attended John Tyler.

High School Student
You are a high school student who is 16 or older and interested in getting a head start on your college career.

Home-schooled Students and Graduates
You are home-schooled student looking to supplement your home-school curriculum or begin your college career.

International Student
You are an international student who holds a current visa, a letter from the INS or Homeland Security, or a temporary/permanent resident card.

Military Spouse or Dependent Child
You are the spouse or dependent child of an active-duty military service member.

Senior Citizen
You are a Virginia resident age 60 or older.

Non-High School Graduate
If you are over 18 years old and have not graduated from high school and do not have a GED.
